Emma Rose is just getting started. A few years into her career as an R&B artist, Rose pivoted to focus on her first love: songwriting. Drawing on influences like Carole King, D’Angelo, and Emily King, Rose creates harmonically driven, emotionally charged pop and R&B. Straddling the fine line between mainstream and alternative, Rose weaves rich chord progressions, lush strings and live funk bass into pop songs that are in a genre of their own. “When I was an artist, I was like how jazzy and weird can I make this?” Rose says. “Now I’m like, what universal experiences can I pull from? How can I make it chordally interesting and harmonically lovely, and create something that can be an anthem with a great chorus and great hook? I guess I’m writing the same, but revising differently.” Born and raised in San Francisco, Rose grew up playing piano and writing songs as a “relaxing” side hobby, spending most of her time dancing as a pre professional ballerina. After multiple injuries halted her ballet career, Rose moved to Manhattan to pursue a career in music, growing her skill set to become the multifaceted pianist, top liner, producer and arranger she is today. Looking forward, Rose has her sights set on providing these services to other writers, and shaking up the current pop landscape with her unique musical perspective.
